Massive Avocado Enters Guinness World Records ¶
On October 13, 2019, a family in Hawaii, United States, achieved a Guinness World Record for growing the world's heaviest avocado, weighing 2.55 kg.
The Pokini family planted the avocado tree 10 years ago, and it grew up to 20 feet tall. The massive avocado is 15 times larger than the average avocado.
According to Juliane Pokini, the family received the seed of the avocado tree from her brother-in-law and planted it 10 years ago when their son was born. It took approximately 10 months for the avocado to grow to its maximum weight after flowering and harvesting.
After the avocado reached its massive size, the Pokini's applied for the Guinness World Record but did not get a response until three months later. They had adequately prepared for the application, including by having experts and witnesses at the time of weighing the avocado.
They also had everyone fill a witness statement, which is one of the authentication documents required by Guinness. After they sent out their evidence, they waited another three months to hear from Guinness.
Speaking to CNN, Juliane Pokini said, "It took approximately 10 months for the avocado to grow to its maximum weight after flowering and harvesting."
They made it to the Guinness world of Records for their massive avocado, which weighed 2.55 kg. The avocado is as big as their 12-year-old son's head.
Interestingly, the family made its first attempt for one of its avocados to be considered by Guinness World Records as the world's heaviest in 2018 but failed in the verification process. They were therefore prepared in their second attempt, which became successful.
