On October 13, 2019, Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge made history by becoming the first person to run a marathon in under two hours, breaking the 2-hour mark by 20 seconds.
According to reports, Kipchoge's achievement sparked rumors that he had been promised a private jet by businessman Jimmi Wanjigi if he succeeded in breaking the barrier.
However, Wanjigi has denied these claims, stating that the reports circulating on social media were false.
Wanjigi's lawyer, Willis Otieno, also confirmed that Wanjigi does not own a Twitter account, and that the accounts @Jimmywanjigi1 and @JimiWanjigi are fake.
Wanjigi himself told Citizen Digital that the Twitter account used to post information about his alleged promise to Kipchoge was a parody.
“It is a fake account, it has nothing to do with me but we are proud of Eliud Kipchoge for what he has done for the human race and for Kenya in particular,” Wanjigi said.
