On October 13th, 2019, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i warned Kenyans about a fake gazette notice claiming that Monday, October 14th, was a public holiday.

The notice, which circulated on social media, stated that the day was declared a public holiday to honor athlete Eliud Kipchoge's exceptional success in Vienna, Austria, where he became the first person to complete a 42-kilometer marathon in under two hours.

However, Matiang'i clarified the situation on his official Twitter page, stating that the notice was entirely fake.

“NOTICE TO ALL KENYANS. The notice attached is FAKE. Kindly ignore,” tweeted Matiang’i.

On October 12th, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge made history by successfully completing the INEOS 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria, with the help of 41 pacemakers, and entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the achievement.
