On October 12, 2019, US President Donald Trump touted a partial, unsigned trade deal with China as a major achievement, saying it was the best deal US farmers had ever secured.

According to Trump, the deal, which was announced on Friday, calls for a significant increase in China's purchases of US farm products, with imports expected to reach $40-50 billion annually, more than double the level of 2017.

Trump also claimed that the deal would result in a huge increase in Chinese purchases of US farm goods, including soy, and that US farmers would be able to meet the increased demand.

However, it was unclear whether Trump meant new orders or previously existing ones when he mentioned that the deal would result in $16-20 billion in Boeing plane sales.

Boeing declined to comment on the matter when reached by AFP.

While the deal marks a halt in the 18-month trade war between the US and China, it is unclear when the agreement will be finalized or what the details of the deal are.
