On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge made history by becoming the first person to run a marathon in under 2 hours, shattering the mythical sub-two marathon barrier at the INEOS Challenge in Vienna.
The world marathon record holder, who had previously missed the mark by 26 seconds two years prior, achieved the feat with a time of 1:59:40, leaving no doubt about his capabilities.
As he crossed the finish line, Kipchoge waved at fans and pointed at the clock, pumping his chest in celebration of his achievement.
Speaking after the race, Kipchoge said, "I'm feeling good, the first man to run the marathon under two hours and hopefully this inspires mankind. The race was difficult especially the first kilometre which needed a lot of concentration. I want to thank my pacesetters who are a world class group."
Although the feat will not count as an official world-record due to the use of alternating pacemakers, it marked a significant milestone in marathon running and solidified Kipchoge's status as the greatest marathon runner of all time.
