On October 12, 2019, a social media post sparked controversy, claiming that businessman Jimi Wanjigi had promised to deliver a private jet to Eliud Kipchoge after the marathoner made history in Vienna.

However, Wanjigi has since broken his silence, stating that the post was not from him and that he has no social media accounts.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Wanjigi praised Kipchoge for his achievements, saying, "It is a fake account, it has nothing to do with me but we are proud of Eliud Kipchoge for what he has done for the human race and for Kenya in particular."

Wanjigi's lawyer, Willis Otieno, added that both Twitter pages claiming to be Wanjigi's accounts are fake.
