On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge made history by breaking the sub two hour marathon record in Vienna, sparking a wave of congratulations from Kenyans and beyond.

However, a section of netizens had asked the tycoon Jimi Wanjigi to honour his promise of buying Kipchoge a private jet if he achieved this feat.

Speaking a few hours after Kipchoge's achievement, Wanjigi revealed that a fake Twitter account in his name was used to make the promise.

According to a report by Citizen TV, Wanjigi said he was proud of Kipchoge but the said jet to be delivered had nothing to do with him.

"It is a fake account, it has nothing to do with me but we are proud of Eliud Kipchoge for what he has done for the human race and for Kenya in particular," the businessman said.

Wanjigi's lawyer, Willis Otieno, maintained that the businessman has no social media accounts, meaning all Twitter pages under his name were fake.

Wanjigi was responding to a tweet posted by an account under @jimmywanjigi1 on October 12, 2019, which read: "Congratulations!! You have done us proud #Eliud159. Plans are underway with @GulfstreamAero, the jet will be deliver to #eliudkipchoge before 29th November 2019.Hard work pays."
