On October 12, 2019, Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno revealed plans to give celebrated athletics legend Eliud Kipchoge a befitting welcome upon his return from Vienna, Austria.

Speaking shortly after Kipchoge set history as the first person to run a marathon in under 2 hours, Chemno stated that a road would be named in honor of Kipchoge, citing his significant contribution to the county's joy.

Chemno also urged the national government to expedite the construction works of the incomplete Kipchoge Keino stadium, citing the ongoing works on the 64 Stadium.

His proposal came after Eliud won the INEOS 1:59 challenge, in a record time of 1:59:40, making him the first person in the world to finish a marathon in less than two hours.

However, not everyone was impressed with the proposal to honor Kipchoge. Dennis Itumbi sparked outrage on Twitter by suggesting that Kipchoge be awarded a Presidential award, with many netizens rebuking him and comparing the award to the 'Chief of The Golden Hearts' award.
