Eliud Kipchoge Breaks Sub-Two Hour Marathon Barrier ¶
On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge made history by becoming the first human to break the sub-two hour marathon barrier, completing the INEOS Challenge Marathon in 1:59:40.
The achievement was met with widespread celebrations across the world, with Kenyans and people of all races joining in to congratulate Kipchoge on his remarkable feat.
Deputy President William Ruto and other leaders were present in Vienna to witness the historic moment, while thousands of people gathered in Nairobi and Eldoret to celebrate Kipchoge's achievement.
Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno led the celebrations in Eldoret, urging young people to focus on their goals and strive for greatness like Kipchoge.
Other leaders present at the celebrations included Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, Swarup Mishra (Kesses), Daniel Rono (Keiyo South), and Didmus Barasa (Kimilili).
President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga also congratulated Kipchoge on his achievement, with President Kenyatta saying, "Hearty congratulations @EliudKipchoge. You've done it, you've made history and made Kenya proud while at it. Your win today, will inspire tens of future generations to dream big and to aspire for greatness. We celebrate you and wish you God's blessings."
Raila Odinga described Kipchoge's achievement as a "moon-landing" moment that will be remembered for many years to come.
