On October 12, 2019, history was made at Kapsisiywa village in Nandi County when Eliud Kipchoge successfully completed the INEOS 1:59 Challenge, running the marathon in under two hours.
Janet Rotich, Kipchoge's mother, was overjoyed at her son's achievement, crediting God for giving him the strength to succeed.
'My son has done the whole world proud, and I'm so excited,' Janet said. 'He used to work hard in training, waking up very early in the morning and going for his build up.'
It was Kipchoge's second attempt at the challenge, having fallen short by 26 seconds in Monza, Italy in 2017.
Janet expressed her pride in her son's achievement, saying, 'When he won in Berlin Marathon last year, I knew there were a lot of things for him to achieve, and indeed he has done it today. I'm so happy for him.'
Friends, fans, and family gathered at Kipchoge's village home to watch him defy the odds and complete the challenge in 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 40 seconds.
Janet is eagerly awaiting her son's return, planning to welcome him in a big way and celebrate his achievement.
