Published on October 12, 2019, a Nyeri woman who was left for dead after being stabbed 17 times by her husband has finally spoken out about her decision to forgive him and withdraw the attempted murder case.

Peninah Wangeci, a mother of three, explained to Citizen Digital why she chose to forgive her husband, Samuel Ndirangu, and withdraw the case, despite her family members insisting that she was not in her right mind when making the decision.

Wangeci spent months in nursing and care after the incident and further added that she does not see the point of a case against the father of her children.

'You cannot be always in court with someone who we have children with,' Wangeci said.

However, her mother, Loise Wambui, tearfully remembers the pain they went through and insists that Wangeci is in no shape to withdraw the case, but her daughter disagrees.

According to LSK Nyeri chapter chairman Wahome Gikonyo, withdrawal of such a case would require input from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

But if the withdrawal is done, a spouse is not a witness that can be compelled and family members cannot take the matter back to court.

'No other family member can go back to court, as they were not there,' said Gikonyo.
