On October 12, 2019, history was made in Vienna, Austria, as Eliud Kipchoge became the first person to run a marathon under two hours, clocking 1:59:40 at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge.

Supported by 42 pace markers, Kipchoge proved his mantra of 'no limits to humanity' by pushing the boundaries of human endurance.

As he crossed the finish line, Kipchoge exclaimed, 'This means a lot. I am very happy for myself, my family, all Kenyans and the whole world.'

Describing the race as 'hard to handle,' Kipchoge credited his success to strong mental energy, tactics, and perseverance. He also expressed his desire to make running an interesting sport and to inspire others to achieve their dreams.

With this remarkable feat, Kipchoge not only set a new world record but also earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records, cementing his status as one of the greatest athletes of all time.
