Eliud Kipchoge Seeks to Break Two-Hour Marathon Barrier

On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge, the Olympic champion, will attempt to break the two-hour marathon barrier in Vienna, Austria, at 9:15am.

Leading broadcaster Citizen TV will broadcast the event dubbed #INEOSChallenge via the link https://citizentv.co.ke/tv/.

Kipchoge, who has won 11 of the 12 marathon career marathons, aims to break the mythical athletics barrier in his second attempt after falling 26 seconds short in 2017 in Monza, Italy.

He lowered the legal world record by an astonishing 78 seconds when posting 2:01.39 in Berlin last September and recorded the second-fastest time in history when he won the London marathon in 2:02.37 in April.

However, if he dips under two hours, it will not count as an official world record as the race set-up will use alternating pacemakers to keep him under the required pace and against IAAF regulations.

Watch out for the numbers Kipchoge must hit in order to run at least 1:59:59. He will need to sustain a pace of 4:34 minutes per mile over the distance to complete the challenge.
