On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge, a 34-year-old Kenyan athlete, made history by attempting to run a marathon in under two hours in Vienna, Austria.

Janet Rotich, Kipchoge's mother, was filled with pride as she watched her son take on the challenge. 'I'm praying for my son,' she said in an interview with KTN News.

Kipchoge, a former butcher and milk vendor, had a humble beginning. He admits that Kalenjins are naturally farmers, but he chose a different path. 'I didn't think I'd end up in athletics,' he said.

Despite his shyness, Kipchoge has won 12 out of the 13 marathons he has run, making Kenyans confident in his ability to break the record. Politicians and former athletes joined Kenyans at the KICC to watch the live broadcast of the race.

Supporters took to Twitter to share messages of hope and encouragement, with many calling him a hero for attempting the impossible. 'The idea of @EliudKipchoge attempting the #IneosChallenge just makes him a hero,' tweeted Visah Simiyu.

As the world watched Kipchoge take on the challenge, many were inspired by his determination and perseverance. 'He has uplifted the whole region he comes from,' tweeted Nassir.

With his impressive track record and determination, Kipchoge was well on his way to making history. And with the support of his mother and the Kenyan people, he was sure to make it a day to remember.
