Eliud Kipchoge to Attempt Two-Hour Marathon Barrier in Vienna

On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge will begin his record attempt to break the two-hour marathon barrier in Vienna, Austria, at 9:15am.

Leading broadcaster Citizen TV will broadcast the once-in-a-lifetime event dubbed #INEOSChallenge via the link https://citizentv.co.ke/tv/.

Kipchoge, who has won 11 of his 12 marathon career marathons, is aiming to break the mythical athletics barrier in his second attempt after falling 26 seconds short in 2017 in Monza, Italy.

The 34-year-old is hoping his latest bid would be comparable in the annals of human achievement to the moon landing.

However, if he dips under two hours, it will not count as an official world record as the race set-up will use alternating pacemakers to keep him under the required pace and against IAAF regulations.

Watch out for the numbers Kipchoge must hit in order to run at least 1:59:59.

He will need to sustain a pace of 4:34 minutes per mile over the distance to complete the challenge.
