Eliud Kipchoge Breaks Marathon Record in Vienna

On October 12, 2019, Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge made history by becoming the first human to run a marathon in under 2 hours.

The INEOS 1:59 Challenge, sponsored by the multi-billion dollar chemicals company INEOS, took place in Vienna, Austria, and was streamed live in Nairobi, Eldoret, and other towns.

At exactly 11:15 am, Kipchoge crossed the finish line with a time of 1:59:40.2, finishing with 20 seconds to spare.
