As I look back on September, it's clear that it was an extraordinary month. The sunny weather brought out the sundresses, and the party season was in full swing. But beneath the surface, a more concerning trend emerged: excessive drinking.
It's not just the 'cement-crazy Twitter' evangelicals who are speaking out against liquor. The reality is that many of us are drinking to excess, and it's having serious consequences. We're not just talking about the financial costs, but also the impact on our health and relationships.
One friend, Mudendezo, son of John Peter, has been to rehab multiple times. His family's influence and social media pressure forced him to seek help. But for many others, the problem persists. We know someone who drinks every day or every other day, but we're too afraid to confront them. We hope they're just going through a phase, but the truth is, they're not getting better.
It's time for us to have tough conversations with our friends about their drinking habits. We need to get the courage to talk to that friend who seems like a prime candidate for an alcoholics anonymous billboard. We know they're struggling, but we're too afraid to say anything.
Let's be honest, we have an alcohol problem in this country. It's not just a matter of personal choice; it's a public health issue that requires our attention and action.
