On October 11, 2019, a long-awaited moment of closure finally arrived for the families of Mariam Kigenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu.
After a grueling 13-day wait, the car involved in the Likoni ferry tragedy and the bodies of Mariam and Amanda were successfully retrieved from the depths of the Indian Ocean.
The recovery operation, led by the DCI, began at 4 pm, following a morning challenge where the team managed to hook the crane to the vehicle, a feat they had struggled with on Thursday.
To facilitate the retrieval process, balloons were attached to the car to enable it to float as it was being taken out of the ocean.
A short prayer service was conducted at the berth, providing a moment of solace for the grieving families.
