Moi University's main campus was closed indefinitely on October 11, 2019, following student unrest.
According to Deputy VC Isaac Kimengi, a special meeting of the University Senate decided to indefinitely suspend academic programs at the main campus with immediate effect, citing gross misconduct, destruction of property, harassment, and injuring of university officers.
Students were directed to vacate the premises immediately, with some claiming mismanagement of university funds, insecurity, and a hike in examination fees.
Police were earlier forced to lob teargas to disperse the striking Moi University students.
This incident comes barely a week after Kenyatta University was also shut down until further notice following two days of student demonstrations.
