On February 13, a 14-year-old girl from Homa Bay was expected to testify in court as a victim in a defilement case. However, her mother, LW, allegedly prevented her from appearing in court, sparking a chain of events that would ultimately lead to LW's conviction.
According to court records, LW conspired with a man accused of defiling her daughter to deny the girl justice. The Ndhiwa court found LW guilty of this offense and sentenced her to three years in jail.
During the trial, LW pleaded not guilty, but the evidence presented by the prosecution proved that the accused had indeed committed the offense. LW's defense team argued that she was the sole breadwinner in her family and should be shown leniency, but the court rejected this plea.
LW was given 14 days to appeal against the court's verdict. The case highlights the complexities of dealing with sensitive issues such as defilement and the importance of upholding the law to ensure justice is served.
