On October 11, 2019, a Silverstone Air Fokker 50 plane, registration 5Y-IZO, crashed at Nairobi's Wilson Airport shortly after take-off.
The Lamu-bound aircraft, carrying 55 passengers and five crew members, skidded off the runway.
According to Silverstone Air, the incident occurred at 9 am, and the aircraft was operating the Wilson-Mombasa-Lamu-Mombasa-Wilson route.
President Uhuru Kenyatta commended the emergency rescue teams at Wilson Airport for their swift response, which helped prevent any fatalities.
State House spokesperson Kanze Dena stated that the President wished a quick recovery to the nine passengers who sustained injuries.
The Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the incident to determine its cause and prevent similar accidents in the future.
