Published on October 11, 2019, allegations of corruption at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) have put its management under scrutiny. At the center of the scandal is Olivia Adhiambo, the hospital's chief accountant, who is accused of operating dubious companies that hijack lucrative tenders.
According to reports, Adhiambo allegedly paid out Sh30 million to KEMSA, whose dues had accumulated exponentially, out of the Sh47 million meant for development at the facility. The remaining Sh17 million is believed to have been paid out to her decoy companies.
A list exposing companies allegedly operated by Adhiambo through proxies has been exposed. The list includes Netconsoles, which has been contracted to do the cabro pavement at the facility, and Jakahongo Limited, awarded the cleaning services tenders. Insiders claim that Jakahongo Limited bribed the evaluation committee with Sh1.2 million to win the tender.
Other companies mentioned in the list include Akidos Venture, Moobrow, Erastado, and Marcdanation Ventures. The accountant's alleged involvement in these companies has raised red flags, particularly given her recent involvement in a government reshuffle.
Adhiambo's incredible wealth accumulation in a short time has sparked concerns about corruption at government institutions. The new Kisumu CeC for health, Miguda Atyang, has petitioned for swift action to address the corruption at the hospital and ensure that companies winning tenders are not owned by top hospital employees.
