October 11th marks the International Day of the Girl, a day declared by the United Nations in 2012 to celebrate girls and their potential to inspire and break boundaries.

Each year, the world comes together to support the girl child and raise awareness about the challenges they face, including child marriage, lack of education, and gender-based violence.

According to the UN, 12 million girls under 18 are married off every year, while 130 million girls are out of school and 15 million adolescent girls are victims of forced sex.

Janet Mbugua, a renowned media personality, has been at the forefront of advocating for gender equality and the rights of the girl child through her Inua Dada Foundation.

Through her foundation, Janet has created awareness around Menstrual Health and Menstrual Hygiene, providing girls with access to sanitary pads and promoting their basic needs.

Janet is also active online, using her YouTube channel and social media platforms to discuss and explore topical issues that seek to empower and bring social change.

As we celebrate the International Day of the Girl, we take a moment to applaud Janet Mbugua's relentless efforts in promoting gender equality and the rights of the girl child.
