Siaya County is at the forefront of a new bill that seeks to give back to parents for their efforts in raising their children.
Dubbed 'Okoa Wazazi', the bill proposes that children surrender 20% of their acquired wealth to their parents.
According to Odhiambo Ogutu Randiga, the man who drafted the bill, parents become beggars when their children's spouses inherit their wealth after their death.
Randiga argues that the bill will ensure parents receive a 20% non-negotiable share of their children's wealth, preventing them from leading a deplorable life.
The bill aims to amend the Property Ownership Act to allow parents access their deceased children's wealth without going to court.
Randiga believes the bill is more secure than a will, which can be contested in court.
