On Friday, October 11, 2019, a Silverstone Air plane crashed at Wilson Airport in Nairobi shortly after takeoff, skidding off the runway.
According to Silverstone Air, the Fokker 50 aircraft, registered as 5Y-IZO, was operating the Wilson-Mombasa-Lamu-Mombasa-Wilson route when the incident occurred at 9am.
Fortunately, all passengers and crew were safely disembarked as authorities assessed the situation.
As of 2019, Silverstone Air's fleet consisted of six Fokker 50s, four Dash 8-100s, three Dash 8-300s, and one CRJ-200 aircraft, operating in six locations in Kenya: Mombasa, Kisumu, Malindi, Ukunda, Lamu, and Lodwar.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past, including a 2017 crash-landing of a Ribways light aircraft off Wilson Airport, which injured five people, including three Citizen TV journalists.
