Published on October 11, 2019, a Form Four student from Osogo Secondary School in Uriri drowned in Konyona dam.
According to West Kanyamkago location Chief John Ojwang, the student, identified as Denis Odhiambo, was in the company of other students who had gone to fetch water from the dam.
Eye witnesses indicated that the boy had opted to take a shower in the dam when he drowned.
The body was retrieved on Friday morning by divers who spent the whole night searching for the body.
It has been moved to Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary for preservation pending police investigations.
Similar incidents have been reported in the past, including one at Sagero Secondary School in Suna West Sub County over a year ago.
Many secondary schools in Migori County are facing water shortage, forcing learners to walk long distances to fetch water from dams and streams.
