Published on October 11, 2019, a 65-year-old man from Ugenya has taken a bold step in proposing a private bill to amend the Property Ownership Act.

Mzee Odhiambo Ogutu Randiga wants Kenyans to give back between 10% and 20% of their property to their parents, a gesture he believes is a way of showing appreciation for the sacrifices made by parents in educating their children.

According to Mzee Randiga, the proposed bill aims to address the issue of parents being left behind when their children inherit wealth, often leaving them to beg for support.

He argues that wills may not be adequate in ensuring that parents benefit from their children's wealth, as they can be allegedly fake or dismissed.

Instead, Mzee Randiga proposes that parents should automatically benefit from their children's wealth upon their demise, with the 20% share being divided equally between both parents.

He has called on Ugenya MP David Ochieng' to support the bill and present it to the National Assembly, with the hope that it will become law and guarantee parents a share of their children's wealth.
