Thika MP Patrick Wainaina's visit to the Thika lands registry on Thursday, October 11, 2019, was a response to numerous complaints from residents over poor service delivery.
Accompanied by Thika West DCC Douglas Mutai, Wainaina sought answers to various complaints, including delayed land search results and double allocation of land documents.
Despite acknowledging understaffing as a possible issue, Wainaina emphasized that proper time management and resource utilization were key to resolving the problem.
He asked the Thika Lands Registrar Bernard Leitich to work with his staff to identify challenges and address them with relevant ministries.
Wainaina also warned land-buying companies yet to issue title deeds that their days were numbered, as this practice contributed to land frauds and grabbing in the area.
Responding to allegations, Leitich admitted to challenges within the registry and promised to look into them.
Leitich also warned brokers against camping outside the registry's entrance and offices, as they hindered service delivery.
Thika lands office has been notorious for land fraud, with many losing millions to conmen who take advantage of the confusion to make a kill.
