On October 11, 2019, a Silverstone Air plane crash-landed at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, Kenya, minutes after departure, heading to Lamu.
The plane, a Fokker 50 aircraft with registration number 5Y-IZO, developed a technical hitch while taking off, forcing it to veer off the runway.
According to the Kenya Airports Authority, the plane had 55 souls on board, including 50 passengers and 5 crew members. Two passengers sustained slight injuries and were receiving medical attention.
The Aircraft Accident Investigations Directorate, under the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, is carrying out investigations to determine the cause of the accident.
Kenya Red Cross set up a psychosocial support desk at Wilson Airport to assist those affected by the incident.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported.
