On October 11, 2019, Peter Karanja, a prime suspect in the murder of Dutch billionaire Tob Cohen, was arraigned in court to take plea for Cohen's murder.
Prosecutor Catherine Mwaniki informed the court that Karanja's mental report confirms that he is fit to take plea.
Karanja has denied the charge of murder read out to him, with the prosecution alleging that he, along with others, murdered Tob Cohen on the night of July 19 and 20.
Prosecutor Mwaniki has requested the court to consolidate Karanja's case with that of Sarah Wairimu, citing that the particulars of the offence are the same.
However, Sarah's lawyer, Philip Murgor, has stated that they will oppose the consolidation of the cases.
Justice Stella Mutuku has ordered Karanja's defence team to file a formal application for bail and to appear before Justice Daniel Ogembo for directions on Thursday next week.
Karanja's lawyer, Ham Lagat, has requested that his client be seen by a specialist, a Diabetologist, as Kenyatta National Hospital does not have one. However, the court has directed that Karanja be escorted to the Diabetes clinic at KNH.
