Silverstone Air Plane Crashes at Wilson Airport

On October 11, 2019, a Silverstone Air plane crashed at Wilson Airport just minutes after takeoff, sparking concerns about air safety.

The airline, which has been promoted by Kenyan celebrity Akothee, was operating a routine flight from Wilson to Mombasa and back.

According to a statement from Silverstone Air management, the incident occurred at 9:00 am while the plane, a Fokker 50 with registration number 5Y-IZO, was taking off.

"We can confirm that our Fokker 50, 5Y-IZO has had an incident while taking off at Wilson Airport at 09:00 am this morning," the statement read.

"The aircraft was operating the Wilson — Mombasa — Lamu- Mombasa — Wilson route."

Fortunately, all passengers and crew were safely disembarked, and the airline is working with authorities to assess the situation.

"The passengers and crew have all been safely disembarked and we are currently working with the relevant authorities to assess the situation," the statement added.

"We thank the emergency services at Wilson Airport for their quick response and cooperation."
