On October 11, 2019, a Catholic priest testified in the divorce case between Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and his wife Marianne Kitany.
The priest, Father Jackson Micheni, told the court that he had officiated the marriage ceremony between Linturi and his first wife Mercy Kaimenyi on April 8, 2000, at the Tigania Parish.
“I officiated a Christian marriage between Mithika Linturi and Mercy Kaimenyi, who were young then, on April 8, 2000, at the Tigania Parish,” Father Jackson Micheni said.
However, the court noted that Father Micheni's practising licence was not produced, and his signature was missing from the marriage certificate he claimed to have issued.
Kitany's lawyers questioned Father Micheni on whether the marriage ceremony was conducted in a proper manner, and the court also noted that one of the witnesses to the marriage did not sign the certificate.
