Beauty standards can be harsh, and for some, it's a matter of life and death. In Kenya, a plus-size beauty contestant, Diana Mwende, has come forward to share her painful experience of losing job opportunities due to her body shape.

Published on October 11, 2019, Mwende's story is a testament to the harsh society expectations that plus-size individuals face every day.

Speaking to a local radio station, Mwende tearfully narrated how she was bullied and lost job opportunities because of her body size. She recalled how mean comments forced her to seek refuge at home and at one point she could not leave the house.

"It has not been easy being plus-size. I lost job opportunities because of my body size," said Mwende.

Despite the challenges, Mwende has found happiness by embracing her body shape. She has also confessed to trying various products to lose weight, including slimming tea and herbal medicines, and even quitting eating before making a decision to love herself.

Her story serves as a reminder that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and it's time to break free from the shackles of societal expectations.
