On October 11th, 2012, the United Nations declared the International Day of the Girl Child, a day to support opportunities for girls and raise awareness on gender inequality.

Girls face significant challenges in accessing education, proper nutrition, and basic legal rights, as well as protection from discrimination and violence.

However, this day is also a celebration of the success of the girl child and women who have broken the glass ceiling, inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.

Janet Mbugua, a prominent figure, took to Instagram to commemorate the day, saying, “I am deserving I am worthy, I am courageous, I am smart, I am powerful, I am achieving. I am Unscripted and Unstoppable. Happy #DayoftheGirl to all of us. May we own our powerful narrative and always know this; we belong here”.

How are you commemorating this day?
