On October 11, 2019, the Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka was given a luxury vehicle by the Senate, following the seizure of his official car over a Ksh7 million debt.
The Senate opted to hire a Toyota V8 for Lusaka, which costs Ksh400,000 per month, amounting to Ksh2.4 million for six months.
According to reports, the Senate did not explore alternative solutions, such as offsetting the debt or negotiating a deal, but instead incurred additional costs at the expense of taxpayers.
Parliamentary Service Commission chairman Justin Muturi expressed surprise at the decision, stating that he was unaware of the situation.
