On Tuesday evening, five police officers were arrested in Machakos town for attempting to break into an ATM belonging to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
According to a police report, the officers were apprehended after a security guard raised the alarm. The suspects were found in possession of Sh268,000.
The arrested officers include Corporal Richard Wambua from Kahuro Police Station in Murang'a, Administration Police Constable (APC) Boniface Wambua from Rapid Deployment Unit in Nairobi, and APC Cyprian Odundo, who is based in Machakos.
Others are Prison Warden Julius Mwalili attached to Prisons Headquarters and Prison Warden Musyoki Mutua who is attached to Prisons Regional Commander Nairobi.
During the search, Ksh. 100,000 was recovered from the motor vehicle dashboard, and another Ksh. 168,600 was found hidden inside Julius Mwalili's socks, which he failed to account for. Additionally, one prisons beret was recovered.
This incident comes days after three other police officers attached to Kayole police station were arrested for stealing $60,000 (Sh6 million) from two lodgers in Nairobi's Eastleigh area.
