Trump Loses Another Ally ¶
Representative John Shimkus, a veteran Illinois Republican who has announced he will not seek re-election, expressed his disappointment with President Trump's decision to abandon Syria's Kurds, saying, “I'm heartbroken.”
Shimkus made his comments on St. Louis talk radio, stating that he would no longer be associated with the 'I support Donald Trump' list. This move is significant, as it may impact the president's ability to maintain support among Republicans, especially those who have announced their retirement.
Conservative Scholars Call for Impeachment ¶
On the same day, sixteen conservative lawyers, including George T. Conway III, the husband of President Trump's counselor Kellyanne Conway, called for an 'expeditious impeachment investigation' and potential trial in the Senate.
The group, which includes prominent legal scholars such as Charles Fried and Orin S. Kerr, stated that the president's actions are 'fundamentally incompatible with the president's oath of office, his duties as commander in chief and his constitutional obligation to 'take care that the laws be faithfully executed'.
Trump Takes Aim at Fox News ¶
President Trump also took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with Fox News Channel, stating that their pollsters 'suck.' This move is seen as an attempt to maintain the support of his core voters, who rely on Fox News for information.
