On October 10, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) finally caught up with two police officers and a civilian suspected of being behind a Sh6 million heist. The trio had evaded a police dragnet for 40 days.

Constables Simon Mwaniki, Kelvin Murangu, and civilian Martin Kithinji were arrested in Kahawa West, Nairobi, after being tracked down by detectives from Pangani Police Station. They were found in a saloon car.

After interrogations, Mwaniki led the sleuths to his Kayole and Hurlingham houses, where Sh942,000 in fake currencies and 30 bullets were recovered. Other items included two bulletproof jackets, 15 speed governors, forged driving licenses, and other suspicious documents.

The trio is accused of stealing from two businessmen at Barwoo Lodge, 8th Street 2nd Avenue Eastleigh, on October 4. The six gunmen had trailed the two businessmen to their room and ordered them to surrender the cash they had.
