On October 10, 2019, a dramatic turn of events unfolded in the case of a brazen robbery in Eastleigh, where a Kayole police officer was caught in the act.
Constable Simon Mwaniki, who had been on the run since the incident, was arrested in Ruiru, Kiambu, while in transit.
According to Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo, Mwaniki was taken into custody and will be arraigned in court on Friday.
The suspect was caught on CCTV cameras robbing two people of $60,000, alongside his colleagues, including constables Daniel Kipkorir and Alex Kandie, corporal Wilson Cheruiyot, and Mr. Jean Baptist Esome, a Cameroonian.
The robbery took place at Barwaka Lodge on Eastleigh's Eighth Street and Second Avenue, where the suspects held Mr. Mohamed Hassan and Mr. Abdullahi Hussein Yusuf at gunpoint.
Police recovered Sh3,520,000 and three loaded pistols from the suspects, with Mwaniki's accomplices arrested by detectives from the Pangani Police Station on the same night.
