With over a decade of experience in the interior design business, Clara Mwanje, founder of Interior Perspective Studio, has learned a thing or two about what it takes to succeed. In a recent conversation with Claire, founder of Interior by Claire, Clara shared some of the key lessons she has learned along the way.
According to Clara, one of the most important things she learned before setting up her own business was the value of gaining experience in an existing business environment. She worked for three years prior to setting up Interior Perspective Studio, which gave her the knowledge and skills she needed to launch her own business.
Clara emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with experienced people, particularly during the start-up phase. She noted that having a team of experienced individuals who can offer guidance and mentorship is crucial for success in the interior design business.
Another key lesson Clara shared was the need to establish clear rules and procedures to guide the business. She emphasized that systems and processes are essential for scaling up a business and ensuring sustainable growth.
Clara also stressed the importance of involving a quantity surveyor in the costing process. She noted that costing is a critical factor in the interior design business and that involving a quantity surveyor can help ensure that unforeseen expenditure is factored into the costing process.
