Published on October 10, 2019, a major case of food poisoning has hit Wazito FC, a Kenyan Premier League club, ahead of their international friendly match against Mozambique.
The team's defender, Johnstone Omurwa, has been forced to pull out of the match due to a stomach upset, which has also affected several of his teammates.
According to sources, nine Wazito FC players reported sick on Tuesday, prompting the club to cancel its training session and focus on treating the affected players.
It is believed that the players may have consumed contaminated food at a local food joint in Nairobi before last weekend's league match against Mathare United, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Wazito FC, owned by Dubai-based billionaire Ricardo Badoer, has struggled for positive results in the new season, winning only once out of seven league assignments.
Despite the setback, Harambee Stars coach Kimanzi has replaced Omurwa with teammate Bernard Ochieng ahead of Sunday's game.
