On October 9, 2019, a multi-agency team led by the Kenya Navy began the process of retrieving a vehicle that had plunged into the Indian Ocean with two occupants 10 days prior.

The team, which included divers and experts from various agencies, had been searching for the vehicle since it went missing on September 28, 2019, while aboard the MV Harambee ferry.

According to Government Spokesman Cyrus Oguna, the team located the object that matched 90% of the description of the Toyota ISIS car that plunged into the Indian Ocean.

As the team worked to retrieve the vehicle, an underwater video obtained by KBC Channel 1 showed the body of one occupant floating inside the vehicle, with experts speculating that the second occupant could still be inside.

After a 10-day operation, the team successfully retrieved the vehicle, bringing an end to the search and rescue efforts.
