Kenya's current constitution, adopted in 2010, initially led to the cancellation of Moi Day celebrations.
However, in a recent court ruling, the High Court's Chief Justice George Odunga ordered the reinstatement of Moi Day, stating that its cancellation was unlawful.
Seneta wa Baringo Gideon Moi, son of the late President Moi, has urged Kenyans to celebrate the day with peace and unity.
"As we celebrate this day, I urge all Kenyans to reflect on the values that make us unique as Africans," Gideon Moi said.
President Moi stepped down in 2002, after losing the presidential election to Mwai Kibaki, who was backed by Uhuru Kenyatta, the current President of Kenya.
