Published on October 10, 2019, a court case involving the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani and his two associates took a dramatic turn when an attorney representing the informer accused of participating in the crime objected to a 47-minute video clip of his client's alleged confession.
Peter Ngugi, the informer, had explained in the video how the murder was hatched and executed in 2016. The video, which was to be played in court, showed Ngugi taking police officers to six scenes of crime, explaining what happened at each location.
Kevin Michuki, the attorney representing Ngugi, objected to the video and transcripts being produced as part of the evidence in court. He argued that his client would be incriminating himself, which is against the law, and that it would be unfair for the court to admit the video as evidence.
Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Nicholas Mutuku countered that the defence lawyer was employing delay tactics. The court will rule on whether the video is admissible or not on Monday.
