On October 12th, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge will make history in Vienna, Austria, as he attempts to become the first person to run a marathon in under two hours. The INEOS 1:59 Challenge, led by Kipchoge, has been months in the making, with the athlete training in Kaptagat, Kenya.
According to Robby Ketchell, leading the weather analysis for the INEOS 1:59 Challenge Performance Team, the weather conditions on the day are looking optimal. 'We have looked at the weather patterns for Vienna coming through and the current conditions are looking to be optimal for temperature, humidity, wind, and precipitation for this Saturday morning,' Ketchell said.
With the date set, Kipchoge will begin his three-day countdown, switching to a specialized nutrition plan and carb-loading to prepare for the challenge. Patrick Sang, Kipchoge's coach, flew in with the athlete from Kenya and expressed his excitement for the challenge, stating, 'One element that is very important for Eliud is the crowd. So please, come and support Eliud on 12th October and cheer him on to help him make history.'
