Published on October 9, 2019, HMD Global's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, announced that the Android 10 update for the Nokia 8.1 is now rolling out.
The Nokia 8.1 was one of the few smartphones that participated in the Android 10 beta testing phase. In a previous message to developers and users, HMD Global stated that only devices running the latest beta software, Android 10 Beta 5 build V4.070 or V5.070, would receive the push notification to update to the final software over-the-air.
Other users can expect a push notification inviting them to upgrade their devices as soon as the update is available. The update is expected to hit Nokia smartphones in Kenya between October 11th and 14th.
Android 10 brings several new features, including a system-wide dark mode, enhanced parent controls, and privacy-centred controls like MAC address randomization and granting of permissions to apps on a needs basis.
HMD Global plans to update all of the smartphones it has announced over the last 2 years, with the Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 7.1, and Nokia 7.2 expected to join the Nokia 8.1 on the Android 10 table later this month.
