Published on October 9, 2019, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has threatened IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati with removal from office if the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party loses in the upcoming Kibra Constituency by-election.

According to Babu Owino, ODM has conducted an opinion poll indicating that the party will win the by-election by an over 70 percent majority.

During a meeting between the electoral commission and ODM party leaders over the voters' register to be used in the November 7 Kibra by-election, Babu Owino warned Chebukati that should the ODM candidate Imran Okoth score anything below their expected win of 70 percent, then he should be ready to go home.

“Chairman we did an opinion poll and it is showing that 70% of the Kibra residents are going to vote for our candidate. Therefore any reduction of that number will lead us Mr. chairman to mobilise, and this time it will be serious mobilization, to eject you from this office,” he said.

ODM had alleged that the commission ignored several requests to avail an updated voter register for the mini poll.

IEBC has announced it will use the 2017 voter register for the Kibra by-election, a decision arrived at after a two-hour meeting with the ODM representatives.
