Kenya Market Report 09/10/2019 ¶
Published on October 9, 2019, the market capitalization of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) reached Sh 2217.37 billion at the close of trading today, a slight increase from Sh 2212.50 billion the previous day.
However, this figure remains lower than the Sh 2221.42 billion recorded at the start of the week on Monday. The total number of shares traded today stood at 7,758,300, a slight increase from the 7,488,700 shares traded the previous day.
Equity turnover also declined, reaching Sh 241,300,669 at the end of trading today, compared to Sh 326,265,781 on Tuesday and Sh 430,109,672 on Monday.
The biggest gainer in the market was Sasini Tea, with its shares rising by 9.79 per cent to trade at Sh 18.50. On the other hand, CFC Bank shares experienced a decline of 7.24 per cent, trading at Sh 9.74.
The top movers in the market were Safaricom, trading 3,544,700 shares, followed by Equity Bank with 2,501,000 shares, KCB with 817,700 shares, Barclays Bank of Kenya with 140,400 shares, and Coop Bank with 97,900 shares.
The NSE 20 Share index closed at 2,432.48, a slight drop from 2,432.40 on Wednesday. The Kenya Shilling was quoted at a mean rate of Sh 103.7806.
