On October 9, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) impounded 444 vehicles over fraudulent registration claims, including a Range Rover reportedly linked to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
However, Raila has dismissed the allegations, stating that he has never owned a Range Rover.
Through his spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, Raila said, 'In the story, the Standard reported that Mr. Odinga is being sought by DCI for what amounts to tax evasion and fraud. Mr Odinga has never ever owned a Range Rover vehicle.'
He further alleged that the story was part of an agenda of misinformation about him, which the newspaper started on September 16, 2019, when it claimed that a furious Raila had pressed top ODM officials to explain mistakes in the party voters' register that marred Kibra by-election nominations.
As a result, Raila has instructed his lawyers, A.T. Oluoch & Company advocates, to take legal action against The Standard Newspapers.
