On October 12, 2019, Eliud Kipchoge will attempt to make history in Vienna, Austria, as he takes on the INEOS 1:59 Challenge.

Organisers announced the event on October 9, 2019, with the official start time to be confirmed for the following day.

At 34 years old, Kipchoge is a Kenyan long distance legend who has been training for this moment. His goal is to become the first athlete to run a marathon in under 2 hours.

His first attempt at achieving this feat was during the Monza Nike Breaking2 in Monza, Italy on May 6, 2017, where he clocked 2:00:25, just 26 seconds shy of the target.
